Friday was Abby’s last day of Kindergarten and they had such a great day! They had a big party and watched movies all day. Sweet girl. I can’t believe she’s in 1st grade now! I took half a day off work, picked her up from school and we headed on out to Dad’s for the weekend.

Dad lives up near Charlotte, NC in Lake Wylie and we had a great time… we just basically lazed around all weekend. No TV, early bedtimes, good food, good weather… it was an overall great trip! Sorry Patrick couldn’t make it – I really missed him. He had a fun weekend of playing Nintendo and hanging out with his parents…

On Saturday, we went to a farm in Fort Mill, SC and had so much fun picking our own strawberries! They were bursting with flavor and color… I was absolutely amazed at how sugary sweet they were.

The girls had a great time and I think they ate as many (if not more) than we put in the basket. Abby was intently chasing lady bugs the whole time we were there, but we somehow managed to overfill our basket in record time. Just LOOK how beautiful they are

After we picked as many strawberries as we could, we went home and the girls had a dress-up tea party with Anne’s scarves, hats and purses. What a great way to top off a great day!

I went to see my Granny on Sunday morning and she wasn’t doing too well, but when we went back by there Monday (on our way out of town), she was doing MUCH better. The girls got to see her and Abby gave her a sweet drawing she had done. She’s in a run-of-the-mill nursing home now and my aunt tells me she hates it and is mean to the nurses (gotta love my “tell it like it is” Granny), but they all act like they truly enjoy her company. They like her feisty spirit and Granny sure ain’t gonna take no “crap” from nobody!

Thank goodness the girls were tired out for the ride home. Maggie took 2 naps and Abby watched 3 movies. Whew. We made it home in record time. Unlike our trip up there which took us over 7 hours. It’s a long story that I don’t want to relive (sorry), but it involves someone getting a new house (read: double wide) for Memorial Day… which was driving up the MIDDLE OF THE INTERSTATE for like 60 miles going 55 MPH. Fun times.

Friday was great. We had the Hershey’s Bliss House Party at our house (I’ll explain more later), but Saturday was great! We did tons of stuff and had fun all day. Saturday morning, we had Abby’s soccer game. Afterwards, we went to the Waffle House for breakfast (the girls’ FAVORITE place to eat) and came home to play in the yard.

I planted some more flowers and the girls played in the sprinkler. They (Abby) had a blast – Maggie wouldn’t get NEAR it… until we took the sprinkler off and let them just play with the hose.

Daddy’s so mean though – he shut off the water and waited just long enough for Abby to “look inside” to see what the problem was. Well, you can see how that turned out…

Then we laid our towels out in the yard for a bit of sunbathing.

Yes, Fridays are fabulous – but Saturdays are so much fun!

You are our favorite neighbors! You let us come swimming in the summer and you give us tons of advice about all sorts of things. We sincerely apologize for the way our yard has been looking lately. It’s a shame that we spent all that money on it last summer and the weeds have OFFICIALLY taken over. We strive to be like you, Mr. Bob… sweatin’ away in your yard day-after-day. Your yard is truly a showpiece – and we’re ashamed.

But never fear! Patrick spent the afternoon Saturday fertilizing the yard. He spent the afternoon Sunday fertilizing the bushes. He’s going out in the yard one day this week to round-up the weeds. They are NO MATCH for the chemicals he’s recently purchased (insert evil laughter here)! We promise that this weekend we’re going to buy those 150 bales of pinestraw and cover our bare-naked natural areas. It’s a hard task for us to live up to your standards of “yard-excellence”… but it’s one we will challenge ourselves with honor – oh favorite neighbors of ours!

Here is what my seedlings look like now! I’m excited. They’ve all sprouted and I’m toughening them up so that we can move them to a pot outside. I guess I’ll have to keep them on the screened porch for a while though – until it’s warm enough to put them outside 24-7.

And (drum-roll please)… I finally got a new phone! Wohoo! I called our cell service today and talked my way out of our contract and out of paying the service charge of $200! I mean, come on people… we couldn’t even talk on our phones at our house! Our service STUNK! Anyway, we’ve switched to “America’s Most Reliable Network” and so far, we have service everywhere we’ve been. Here’s what my new phone looks like… it’s an ice blue chocolate phone by LG. Pretty cool, huh?

my first garden…

Since all of our trees got blown away last year in the tornado on March 1st, we have TONS of sun in our (newly landscaped) yard… and I intend to take complete advantage of it. I’m going to try my hand at growing various herbs and vegetables in pots this year.

I settled on my favorites and may expand with more veggies (if these are easy enough to grow). Sweet basil, small flat-leaf parsley, rosemary, chives and a smaller variety of tomato.  I intend to start them tomorrow evening in those little starter kits that you soak in water and they expand up really big. You know the ones like these. Anyway, I’ll try to document my progress every time I notice a change…

You can be my accountability so that they don’t die – like everything else I try to grow.
