I don’t want to clean. I hate doing laundry and I hate cleaning the house. Ok, now I feel better. I’ve been (gradually) doing laundry all weekend and it STINKS! I’d much rather be baking or sewing or crafting. I’m taking a vacation day tomorrow to be off with Abby, who is out of school for Veteran’s Day, and I’m planning on crafting all day. Yeah right. I’ve got some sewing to do (notice the ever growing list of sewing projects on Sew Mama Sew) and I’m trying to teach myself to knit by a neat website I found with tutorial videos called KnittingHelp.com. Abby and I are planning on watching a movie in the morning, so tht will be some valuable “knitting” time for me… I hope. Then, I’m (supposedly) teaching her how to sew. I’m not sure what I’m going to get her to do… maybe start working on a whimsical Christmas present? Who knows. Anyway, she’s excited!
Speaking of wanting to bake, I got a whim last night and made up a big batch of Saltine Toffee. Oh my goodness, I forget how yummie this is until I make it every holiday season. The recipe is simple.
Saltine Toffee:
Line a pan with foil and a single layer of saltine crackers. Meanwhile, bring 1 c brown sugar and 1/2c butter to a boil and continue to boil for 2 minutes. Por over saltines and place in a 350 degree oven for 10 minutes. Remove and sprinkle with 1c chocolate chips. Place back in oven for 2 minutes to melt chocolate. Spread the melted chocolate over the whole surface and sprinkle with 1/2c chopped nuts (I used walnuts). Let cool completely and break up into hunks (I put it in the fridge overnight to cool). This recipe made a gallon size Ziploc bag of toffee. Yummie!

I’m right there with you when it comes to household chores…ugh!
That’s great that Abby wants to learn to sew. There are a few good books available for little sewers. Search Amazon for the different titles. I remember when I taught my now 14 yo daughter to sew when she was 7. We started with simple pillows and blankets for her American Girl doll, then moved onto simple skirts and capes for the doll.
happy sewing!
With friendship,
Lisa
I have made this recipe before. I would have to look at mine, but I am petty sure mine uses normal white sugar. I think the brown would be better.
BTW, Hi! I found you by the random blog arrow. I will be back as you seem cool.
I am new to WordPress myself.
Take care!
It’s completely addictive… I had to give my bag away – lest I eat it all! I’m glad you found me… I’ve really liked WordPress so far. Lots of cool options!
